The Meeting Room Staff

Event Review 22/09/12

Really rocking the rafters at new Yorkshire venue The Meeting Room Elland on Saturday night was blues guitar talent Mitch Laddie, who had an audience of about 120 folk in the palm of his hand with a two hour set playing tracks from the band's This Time Around and Burning Bridges albums – awesome stuff. This young Geordie lad might have been influenced in the early days by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, early Clapton and Walter Trout, but he's developed a style that's all his own and we like it!

Up on stage and jamming with Mitch for a time was 15 year old Andrew Pipe, who plays with The Mentulls – watch out for that name in the future – it was a depressing moment for all of us would-be guitarists hearing this youngster belting out the riffs and hooks, and realising we'll never be as good in our forties let alone at 15!

Mitch entertained us with a few tracks played on a hand built Raw Guitar known as 'The Prowler' – what a bluesy tone! As an encore - back on his beloved Strat - he treated us to an unbelievable rendition of Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child – never heard it played as well.

This is a great new venue too – intimate, good facilities, great sound system – we'll be back!
